Hello everyone and welcome back to Mindful Moments with Miss Harrison. I'm Miss Harrison and I'm so happy you're here for our final episode in this series. Last time we talked about creating a calm space, a special place where you can go to relax and feel peaceful. Did you try your Mindful Moment challenge this week? I hope you made a cosy, comforting space just for you.
Today we're going to explore something really wonderful, gratitude. Gratitude means focusing on the things we are thankful for. It helps us feel calmer, happier and more connected to the world around us. By the end of this episode you'll have a simple gratitude practice you can use every day. Let's begin. Have you ever had a day where things didn't go as planned but then something small made you smile? Maybe a friend shared a kind word, the sun was shining or you got to eat your favourite snack. Gratitude is about noticing and appreciating those little things. When we focus on what we're thankful for our minds feel lighter and we feel happier inside. The best part? Gratitude isn't just for good days, it can help on our tricky days too. Even when things feel tough, there is always something to be grateful for, even if it's just a deep breath or a warm hug. Let's hear how one boy used gratitude to turn his day around. Our story today is about a boy named Jake who discovered the power of gratitude. Jake was having one of those days. His favourite toy broke, his best friend was busy and it started raining just as he wanted to go outside. He sat on his bed feeling grumpy. Then he remembered something his teacher had said, when you feel down try thinking about three things you're grateful for.
At first, Jake couldn't think of anything, but then he wrote down, My little brother made me laugh, my grandma called to say hello, and I had a really yummy lunch. As he wrote each thing, Jake felt a little better. His day wasn't all bad. bad, he decided to start a thankful journal and write down three things he was grateful for every night. Soon he realised that even on the hardest days there was always something good to notice. What do you think Jake learned about gratitude? Just like Jake we can all practice gratitude. Here are three simple ways to focus on what we're thankful for. The first, the three good things list. Every night before bed, think of three things that made you smile during the day. They can be big or small. Next, we could try a gratitude jar. Find a small jar or box. Every day, write one thing you're thankful for on a piece of paper and put it inside. Whenever you feel down, read through your notes to remind yourself of the happy moments. Finally, thank you notes. Write a little note, draw a picture or simply say thank you to someone who has been kind to you.
Sharing gratitude spreads happiness to others too. Which gratitude practice would you like to try today? Now, let's take a moment to practice gratitude together. Close your eyes if you'd like, take a deep breath in and out. Now think of something small that made you happy today. Maybe it was a smile from a friend, a funny joke or the way the sun fell on your face.
Now think of a person you're grateful for, someone who makes your life better. Picture them in your mind and send them a little thank you in your heart. Finally, think of yourself. What's something you're proud of today? Maybe you were kind, worked hard or tried something new. Take one more deep breath in and out.
How does that feel?
You've done such a wonderful job today learning about gratitude. Remember there is always something to be thankful for no matter how big or small. Focusing on gratitude helps us feel happier, calmer and more connected to the world around us. Here's your mindful moment challenge. Every night this week, think of three good things that happened during your day. You can write them down, say them out loud, or just think them in your mind. Notice how it makes you feel. This is the final episode in Mindful Moments with Miss Harrison in this series, but I hope you continue practicing mindfulness every day. You've learned so many wonderful tools. Deep breathing, mindful moment, listening, creating a calm space and now gratitude. Keep using them whenever you need a moment of peace. Thank you for joining me on this journey. Keep breathing, keep noticing and keep being you. being you.
