Hello everyone and welcome back to Mindful Moments with Miss Harrison. I'm Miss Harrison and I'm so happy you're here for another episode in our series about resilience. In our last episode we talked about learning from mistakes and how every mistake can turn into an opportunity. Did you try finding the lesson in a mistake this week? If you did, I hope it helped you feel stronger and ready to keep growing.
Today we're talking about finding courage, that special feeling that helps us try new things, even when they feel a little bit scary. By the end of this episode you'll have tools to face your fears and take brave steps forward. Let's get started. Let's start with our question. What is courage? Courage is being brave enough to try something new even when you feel nervous or unsure. It doesn't mean you're not scared, it means you feel the fear and do it anyway. Have you ever tried something that made your heart race like joining a new club, speaking in front of your class or learning a tricky new skill? That's courage. Every time you take a brave step you're building your resilience and growing stronger.
Let's hear a story about a girl named Ella and how she found her courage. Ella loved swimming but there was one thing she had never tried, diving off the high board. Every time she looked up at the tall ladder, her tummy filled with butterflies, she thought what if I mess up? What if everyone laughs? One day her swim coach said, Ella you don't have to dive perfectly, you just have to take the first step. Ella took a deep breath and climbed the ladder. When she reached the top her legs felt wobbly but she said to herself, I can do this. She counted to three and jumped. The water splashed everywhere and when Ella came up for air her teammates cheered. She smiled and thought, that wasn't as scary as I imagined. From that day on Ella felt braver every time she tried something new. What do you think helped Ella find her courage? Ella's story shows us why courage is so important. Courage helps us to try new things, whether it's learning a new skill or meeting new people. Courage opens the door to exciting opportunities. It also helps us build confidence. Every time you're brave, you remind yourself how capable you really are. And finally, it helps us grow our resilience. Courage helps you bounce back back from fear and keeps you moving forward. So the next time you feel nervous about something, remember Ella's story and take that first brave step. Let's practice finding our courage.
I'll describe a situation and you think about what you could say or do to feel brave. Number one, your teacher asks for volunteers to speak in front of the class. What could you say to yourself to feel brave? Number two. You're invited to join a new game at break time, but you don't know all the rules. How could you take the first step to be able to join in? And finally, you want to try something new, like drawing or riding a bike, but you're worried you might not be good at it. What could you do to start? but you're worried you might not be good at it. What could you do to start? Good job.
Courage isn't about being perfect, it's just about trying. You've done an amazing job today learning all about courage and how to take brave steps forward. Remember, courage isn't about being fearless, it's about trying, even when you feel unsure. Here's your mindful moment challenge for the week. Think of one thing you've been nervous to try and take the first small step. It could be raising your hand in class, trying a new activity or making a new friend. Notice how it feels to be brave. Next time on mindful moments with Miss Harrison we'll talk about dealing with frustration and how to stay calm when things don't go as planned. I can't wait to see you then.
Thank you for joining me today. Remember, you are braver than you think and stronger than you know. Until next time, take care and keep shining. Until next time, take care and keep shining.
