Hello everyone and welcome back to Mindful Moments with Miss Harrison. I'm Miss Harrison and I'm so happy you're here for another episode in our series about emotions in everyday life. In our last episode we talked about handling disappointment and how to turn tricky moments learning opportunities. Did you try finding a silver lining this week? If you did I hope it made your day a little bit brighter. Today we're talking about friendship feelings and how to be a good listener. Listening is one of the best ways to show your friends that you care. By the end of this episode you'll know how to listen with your ears, eyes and heart. So let's get started. Let's think about why listening is so important. Have you ever had a moment where you just wanted someone to hear what you had to say?
Maybe you were excited about something, or maybe you were feeling sad. When we listen to our friends, we're showing them that their thoughts and feelings matter to us. It's one of the best ways to make someone feel cared for and understood. But listening isn't just about hearing words. A good listener pays attention to what their friend is saying, how they're saying it, and even what they're not saying. Let's learn how to do that. Let's hear a story about a boy named Leo who learned how to be a better listener. Leo loved talking to his friends. He always had lots of ideas and stories to share. But sometimes Leo was so busy talking that he didn't notice when his friends wanted to share too.
One day his teacher introduced something called the talking stick. Only the person holding the stick could talk and everyone else had to listen carefully. At first Leo found it hard to wait his turn but soon he realized something amazing. When he listened to his friends he learned new things about them like what made them happy or what they were worried about. By the end of the week Leo had become a great listener and his stronger. What do you think Leo learned about listening? Just like Leo, we can all learn how to be good listeners. Here are three simple steps. Number one, listen with your ears. Pay attention to the words your friend is saying. Try not to interrupt, even if you're excited to share something. Number two, listen with your eyes. Look at your friend when they're talking. This shows them that you're focused on what they're saying. And finally, don't forget to listen with your heart. Think about how your friend might be feeling. Are they happy, excited or maybe worried? Listening with your heart helps you understand their emotions. By following these steps you can show your friends that you really care about what they have to say. So let's practice being good listeners.
Imagine a friend is talking to you. I'm going to describe a situation and I want you to think about how you'd listen with your ears, eyes and heart. First of all your friend is telling you about their favourite new game. What would you do to show that you are listening? Good job. Number two, your friend seems a little bit upset and says I didn't do too well on my test today. How would you listen with your heart and show that you care? Perfect. And finally, your friend is excitedly sharing a story about their weekend. What could you do to stay focused and let them know you're interested? Great job. Practising these steps will help you become an amazing listener. You've done a fantastic job today learning about friendship feelings and how to be a good listener.
Remember listening isn't just about hearing words, it's about showing your friends you care with your ears, eyes and heart. So here's your mindful moment challenge for the week. The next time a friend talks to you try the three steps. Listen with your ears, eyes and heart. Then notice how it makes your friend feel and how it makes you feel too.
