Hello everyone and welcome back to Mindful Moments with Miss Harrison. I'm Miss Harrison and I'm so happy you're here for another episode in our series about emotions in everyday life. In our last episode we talked about starting your day with a positive morning mood. Did Did you try the morning magic routine? If you did, I hope it made your mornings brighter.
Today we're talking about something we all experience, disappointment. It's that tricky feeling we get when things don't go the way we hoped, but here's the good news. Disappointment can teach us important lessons and help us grow. By the end of this episode, you'll have tools to handle disappointment and even turn it into something positive.
So let's get started. Let's talk about disappointment. Have you ever felt sad because something didn't turn out the way you wanted? Maybe you didn't get the toy you wanted for your birthday or your team lost a game. That feeling of sadness or frustration is called disappointment. Disappointment can feel heavy, like a grey cloud hanging over you, but here's some things to remember. That cloud doesn't have to stay forever. When we learn how to handle disappointment, we can make the cloud smaller and even find a silver lining. Let's hear a story about a girl named Mia and how she turned her disappointment into something special. Mia had been waiting all week for her trip to the park with her best friend Sam, but on the morning of the trip Mia looked out the window and saw dark clouds. It was raining. Her mum said, I'm sorry Mia, but we can't go to the park today.
Mia felt so disappointed. She crossed her arms and frowned. This isn't fair, she said. But then Mia's mum asked, what else could we do to make this day more fun? At first, Mia didn't really know. But then she remembered how much she loved building forts with blankets. Let's make the living room into a giant fort, she said.
Soon, Mia and her family were laughing and playing under their fort and Mia realized that even though her day didn't go as planned it turned out to be a lot of fun. What do you think Mia learned from her rainy day? Just like Mia we can all learn to handle disappointment. Here are three steps to help you when things don't go as planned. Number one, take a pause. When you feel disappointed, take a moment to breathe. Close your eyes, take a deep breath in and let it out slowly. This helps calm your mind. Number two, you could name your feeling helps you understand it better. And finally, find the silver lining. Ask yourself, what else can I do to make this moment better? Even if things didn't go as planned, there's always something positive you can try. These steps might not make the disappointment disappear completely, but they can help you feel better and find something good in the situation. Let's practice turning disappointment into something positive. Imagine these situations. First you plan to play outside but unfortunately it started raining. What could you do instead? Well done. Next, your favourite toy has broken. What's another fun toy or maybe a game you could play? And finally, you wanted to win a game, but you lost. What could you learn from that experience? Well done. You're already learning how to find the silver lining in tricky moments.
You've done amazing work today. Remember disappointment is a normal feeling and it's okay to feel upset when things don't go as planned, but with a little pause, understanding and some creativity you can turn those tricky moments into something positive. Here's your mindful moment challenge for the week. The next time you feel disappointed, try three steps we learned.
Pause, name your feeling, and find the silver lining. Then share how you handled it with someone you trust.
Next time on Mindful Moments with Miss Harrison, we'll talk about friendship feelings and how to be a good listener. I can't wait to see you then. Thank you for joining me today. Remember, you're doing an amazing job just by learning and growing. Until next time, take care and keep shining.
