Hello everyone, welcome back to Mindful Moments with Miss Harrison. I'm Miss Harrison and I'm so happy you're here for our final episode in this series. Over the past few weeks we've talked about lots of important feelings, how to name them, how to manage big emotions and even how to celebrate happiness. Today we're going to be talking about two very special words, kindness and empathy. Kindness is when we do something nice for someone and empathy is when we understand how someone else feels. Together they help us build strong friendships and make the world a better place.

So let's get started. Let's start with kindness. Kindness is like giving someone a little gift, a smile, a helping hand or even just a kind word. It doesn't cost anything but it can mean so much. Now empathy is a little bit different. Empathy means imagining how someone else is feeling. If your friend looks sad you might think, hmm I wonder what is making them feel that way. Empathy helps us to understand others so we can then show kindness in the right way. Let's hear a story about a girl named Sophie who learns about kindness and empathy. Sophie loved visiting the park near her house. On one day she noticed a little bird sitting alone on the ground. The bird looked sad and its wing was drooping. Sophie felt worried for the bird. She thought, if I were that bird, I'd feel scared and hurt. So Sophie gently brought the bird to a safe spot under a tree and asked her dad to call the rescue team. The bird chirped softly, almost like it was saying thank you. Sophie felt warm inside, knowing she had helped. Later that day, Sophie thought, I'm glad I noticed how the bird was feeling. That helped me know how to be kind. What do you think Sophie learned about kindness and empathy? Sophie's story shows us how noticing others' feelings can lead to acts of kindness.

Let's learn three simple ways to practice kindness and empathy. Number one, we can just look and listen. Pay attention to people's faces and voices. If someone looks upset or sounds unhappy, they might need a little bit of kindness. Number two, imagine how they feel. Ask yourself, how would I feel if I were in their shoes? And number three, we can take action. Do something small to help. It could be sharing, saying kind words, or just being there to listen. Kindness doesn't have to be a big, grand gesture. Even the smallest acts can make a huge difference.

Let's do an activity together. We're going to brainstorm some kind things we can do for others. I'll ask a question and you think of your answers. Are you ready? Number one, what's one kind thing you can do for a friend? Good. Number two, what's one kind thing you could do for someone in your family? Well done. And finally, what's one kind thing you can do for someone you don't know? Like a neighbour or maybe someone in your community? Amazing ideas.

Remember, kindness can start with a smile, a thank you or even just asking someone how are you feeling today? You've done such a wonderful job today learning about kindness and empathy. Remember empathy is what helps us understand how to be kind. Here's your mindful moment challenge for the week. Do one kind thing for someone each day. It could be helping with chores at home, giving a compliment or drawing a picture for a friend. At the end of the week think about how it made you and the other person feel. Thank you so much for

joining me on Mindful Moments with Miss Harrison. You have learned so many amazing tools for understanding and managing emotions and I'm so proud of you.

Keep practising, keep shining, and remember that your kindness can make a huge difference in the world. Take care, and I hope to see you again soon.
