Hello everyone and welcome to Mindful Moments with Miss Harrison. I'm Miss Harrison and I'm so excited to go on this journey with you as we explore our feelings and learn how to understand and manage them. Every week we'll have fun stories, games and tips to help us all become emotion experts.
So let's get started. Today we are talking about emotions. Hmm what are emotions? Well they are those feelings we have inside us. Sometimes they make us smile like when you see your best friend or eat your favorite ice cream. Other times they might make us frown like when you lose a toy or someone says something unkind. Emotions are like colours, they can be bright and happy or a little stormy and sad but here's something really important, all emotions are okay. Yes, even feeling angry or worried, they help us understand what's happening inside us.
Now let me tell you a story about a little boy named Max and his very colourful day. Once upon a time, Max woke up feeling as bright as the sun. He was so excited to go to the park with his family. But when they got there, he saw the playground was closed. Max felt his excitement change into a stormy grey cloud of disappointment. Why does this always happen to me? Max grumbled. Later, Max's sister shared her toy with him and that made him feel yellow and warm, just like sunshine. At bedtime, Max thought about his day.
He realised that feeling happy, disappointed and calm all in one day wasn't so bad after all. It made his day more colourful, like a rainbow. What do you think Max learned about his emotions that day? Did you notice how Max felt lots of different emotions in one day? That's what makes us human. Some emotions might feel good, like happiness or excitement. Others, like sadness or frustration, might feel a little bit tricky but they're all important because they tell us how we're feeling and help us make choices. Here's a fun way to think about emotions. Imagine they're your friends. They come to visit you but they don't stay forever. Sometimes happiness visits and sometimes anger or worry shows up and that's okay. We can learn to say, hello Anger, what are you trying to tell me? Let's play a quick game called Emotion Detective.
I'll describe a situation and you guess what emotion someone might feel. Are you ready? Imagine you got a surprise gift. How did that make you feel? What if your ice cream fell on the floor? Or how about when you see a big scary spider?
Good job, you're already becoming emotion detectives. Before we finish, here's something to think about. What emotions did you feel today? Maybe you felt happy when you woke up or frustrated when something didn't go as planned. Tonight, try sharing your emotions with someone in your family or just writing them down. Next week, we'll learn how to name our feelings. I can't wait.
Thank you for joining me today on Mindful Moments with Miss Harrison. your emotions are okay and you are doing an amazing job just by being you. Until next time, take care and keep shining.
