Hello everyone and welcome back to Mindful Moments with Miss Harrison. I'm Miss Harrison and I'm so happy you're here for another episode in our Emotional Problem Solving series. Last time we talked about staying calm when our problems feel big and remembering to ask for help when we need it. Did you try your Mindful Moment challenge this week? I hope you found a way to calm yourself when things felt overwhelming. Today we're going to take the next step, finding solutions.
We all face emotional challenges, like feeling left out, struggling with a task, or dealing with disagreements. But when we think through solutions, we can handle these challenges in a healthy and positive way. By the end of this episode you'll have strategies to help you solve emotional problems and feel more in control. Let's begin. When something is difficult our emotions can make it feel even bigger than it already is. If we react too quickly we might make the problem worse instead of better.
That's why pausing and thinking through solutions is so important. It helps us to understand what's wrong, what is it that's the real problem. It helps us to consider different solutions, what are my options to deal with this problem. And finally it helps us to make a positive choice, which solution will help me the most. Let's hear a story about how one boy used solution thinking to handle an emotional challenge. Our story today is about a boy named James. He learned how to find a solution to an
emotional challenge. James loved playing football, he practiced every day and wanted to be the best player on his team. But during a big game he had a chance to score, but he missed. James felt frustrated, embarrassed and disappointed. He wanted to quit the game right then and there, but before he stormed off the field, his coach called him over. James thought for a moment. I guess I could practice more so I feel ready when I have another chance. His coach smiled. That's a great solution. Instead of focusing on what went wrong, you're focusing on what you could do better.
James still felt a little bit disappointed but now he had a plan. Instead of quitting, he decided to keep trying and get stronger for the next game. What do you think James learned about solving emotional challenges? Just like James, we can all solve emotional challenges by using simple problem-solving steps. The first, pause and identify the problem. What's wrong and how do I feel? Next, think of different solutions.
What are two or three things that I could try? Now we choose the best option, which solution is the most helpful? And finally we give it a try, take action and see how it goes. Let's practice finding some solutions together. I'm going to give you some tricky situations. Think about two possible solutions, then choose the best one. First, your best friend is
playing with someone else and you feel really left out. What could you do? Well done. Number two, you feel nervous about speaking in front of the class. What are two ways you could handle this? this. And finally, you argue with your sibling over a toy. What could be a fair solution? Great job! Remember, there is always a way to solve a problem, even when it feels tough at first. You've done a really great job today learning about finding solutions.
Remember, when you face an emotional challenge, pause and identify the problem, think of different solutions and choose the best one. Here's your mindful moment challenge. This week, if something makes you feel upset, pause and think of two possible solutions before reacting. Notice how it helps. Next time on Mindful Moments with Miss Harrison, we'll talk about handling disappointment. What to do when things don't go the way you hoped.
I can't wait to see you then. Thank you for joining me today. Keep thinking, keep problem-solving and as always, keep shining. You
