Hello everyone and welcome back to Mindful Moments with Miss Harrison. I'm Miss Harrison and I'm so happy you're here for another episode in our Mindfulness and Relaxation series. Last time we talked about mindful movement and how using our bodies can help us feel calm, strong and present. D

id you try your mindful moment challenge this week? I hope you found a mindful moment that helped you feel grounded. Today we're going to explore another way to be mindful, by listening to the world around us. When we take time to notice sounds, we can feel more peaceful and connected to the present moment. By the end of this episode, you'll have a new way to relax using just your ears. So let's get started. Have you ever closed your eyes and just listened? There are sounds all around us, some loud, some quiet, some we don't even notice until we stop and pay attention. Listening mindfully means tuning in to the world around us without getting distracted. It helps us feel calm and present just like deep breathing or a mindful movement.

Right now take a moment and just listen. What sounds do you hear? Maybe birds outside, people talking or even the soft hum of the room around you. Sometimes when we feel overwhelmed, stopping to listen can help us feel more peaceful. Let's hear how one boy used mindful listening to feel calmer. Let's hear a story about a boy named Ben who discovered the power of mindful listening. Ben loved visiting his grandma's house but sometimes it felt too quiet. One day he told his grandma, it's so silent here, but she just smiled and said, is it really? Let's listen carefully. Together they sat still and closed their eyes. At first Ben didn't hear much, but then he started noticing the small sounds, a clock ticking, a bird chirping trees, even his own breathing. When he opened his eyes Ben smiled. I never noticed all those sounds before, he said. His grandma nodded. The world is full of music if we take the time to listen.

What do you think Ben learned about mindful listening? Just like Ben we can all learn to listen mindfully. Here are three simple ways to practice. The first is a sound hunt. Close your eyes and count how many sounds you can hear. Can you find five different ones? Maybe footsteps, wind or even the sound of your own breathing. Good, next we can try bell listening. Ring a small bell or listen to a long soft sound. Focus on listening until you can't hear it anymore. This helps train your ears to focus and be patient. Finally we can try a music focus. Listen to a favourite song but this time focus on just one instrument or sound at a time. Maybe it's the beat of a drum, the strumming of a guitar or the singer's voice. Which mindful listening activity would you like to try? Let's practice mindful listening right now. Find a quiet place to sit. Close your eyes if you'd like.

Take a deep breath in and out. Now just listen. What's the first sound you hear?

Now listen even more carefully, what's the quietest sound you can hear? Finally, take a moment to notice your own breathing. Can you hear your breath moving in and out? Now slowly open your eyes, what did you hear that you hadn't noticed before? You've done such a great job today learning about mindful listening. Remember, the world is full of sounds and taking time to listen can help you feel calm and present. Here's your mindful moment

challenge. This week, take one minute every day to stop and listen. See how many sounds you can notice, just like Ben. You might be surprised at what you can hear. Next time on Mindful Moments with Miss Harrison, we'll explore creating a calm space, how to make a special place where you can relax and feel peaceful. I can't wait to see you then.

Thank you for joining me today. Keep listening, keep noticing, and as always, keep shining. Keep listening, keep noticing, and as always, keep shining. keep noticing and as always keep shining.
